  Dry Ice & Liquid Nitrogen

Dry Ice is available to the Chemistry Department 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, and to other Departments during regular business hours.  The Dry Ice Chest is located in the sub basement of Smith hall, across from the freight elevator, just at the entrance to the Kolthoff Tunnel.

In general, customers need to bring their own container, gloves, hammer and any laboratory safety handling equipment that they may need.

An External, non-Chemistry Customer, will need to let the Staff in the Stockroom know that he/she wishes to purchase Dry Ice.  A Staff member will then take you to the Dry Ice Chest and unlock it for you.

Dry Ice is sold by the Whole Pound (1 lbs, or 2 lbs, not .5 lbs or 1.5 lbs.)  In the chest you will find Dry Ice in bags of 50 lbs, consisting of 5, 10 lbs. blocks.  If you want less 10 lbs., you will need to break the block up and estimate how may pounds you are taking:  In example, 1/4 of a block would be 3 lbs., 1/2 of the block would be 5 lbs., etc.

The Dry Ice will be charged out, by you, at the computer terminal located to the Right of the Dry Ice Chest:   Enter your Research Account Number, your Name, the Number of "Whole" Pounds taken and press Enter.  This will complete the sale and list the cost.

Liquid Nitrogen, is also available to the Chemistry Department 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, and to other Departments during regular business hours.

In general customers need to bring their own dewar, gloves and any laboratory safety handling equipment that they may need.

The computer terminal, that a Liquid Nitrogen purchase will be charged out on, by you, is also located outside of RM S-17, by the door to the left of the Dewars: Enter your Research Account Number, your Name, the Number of "Whole" Liters taken and press Enter.  This will complete the sale and list the cost.
