How To Be A Good Scientist
Develop the Following Habits:

  • Collect all the equipment you need before you start.
  • Keep a notebook. Write down what you do in your experiments and what happens.
  • Watch your experiments carefully. Sometimes things happen very quickly and you may have to try a test more than once.
  • If your experiment does not work properly the first time, try again or try doing it in a different way until you succeed.
  • Some science experiments can be dangerous. Ask an adult to help you with any experiments that involve flames, hot liquids, or chemicals. Don't forget to put out any flames and turn off the heat when you have finished.
  • Always keep your working area clean.

Want to Find Out More?

  • Make small changes in the design of your experiment to see if the results are still the same.
  • Look for examples of science around your home and out of doors.
  • Do not worry if you do not understand all the things you see - there are always new things to discover. Remember that many of the most famous discoveries were made by accident.
