Thomas R. Hoye (Professor of Chemistry, University of Minnesota)

B.S./M.S. Chemistry (1972) Bucknell University

Ph.D. Chemistry (1976) Harvard University

Thomas R. Hoye was born in New Wilmington, PA. He attended Bucknell University where research experiences in the laboratories of Professor Harold W. Heine quickly convinced him to put aside study of chemical engineering to concentrate on organic chemistry. He completed the B.S./M.S. degree program in 1972 and went on to graduate work in the laboratory of Professor Robert B. Woodward at Harvard University, earning the Ph.D. degree in 1976. That fall he joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota, where he is currently a Professor of Chemistry.  His teaching interests span synthetic and mechanistic organic chemistry as wellas the continuing evolution of an advanced undergraduate laboratory course. Professor Hoye's research interests are broad. These include natural products synthesis and structure determination, the development of new synthetic methods, the development of new nmr-based strategies for determination of absolute and relative configurations, organometallic chemistry, metathesis reactions, polymer synthesis, and interfacial polymer reactions and phenomena.
