Philippe Buhlmann joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota as assistant professor in September 2000. Following undergraduate and graduate studies in the group of Dr. Wilhelm Simon at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in Switzerland, he received his Ph.D. in 1993. Subsequently, he did postdoctoral studies at The University of Tokyo with Dr. Yoshio Umezawa as a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science. From 1994 to 2000, he has been assistant professor in the department of chemistry, school of science, The University of Tokyo. Since 1993, he has published 50 scientific articles. Phil's research interests focus on electrochemical sensors and the development of chemically selective scanning tunneling microscopy.
