THE CLASSROOM/LABORATORY
DEMONSTRATION EXHIBITION

For High School Chemistry Students

In order to encourage participation by high school chemistry students, we invite all those interested to submit a classroom or laboratory demonstration to be shown and demonstrated during the afternoon open house. All students participating in the demonstration exhibition and their teachers will receive complimentary tickets to the morning symposium, a box lunch, and a special Chem Day T-shirt.

Rules for the Classroom/Laboratory Demonstration Exhibition

The demonstrations will be set up in one of our fully equipped chemical laboratories during the morning of Chem Day, Saturday, November 13, and be presented to the public from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. It is advisable to devide your team up so each student does the demo for only one hour. The chemistry department at the University of Minnesota will be happy to provide materials, chemicals, computers and assistance for setting up and operating the demonstrations but these must be requested well in advance.

Finally, each project should include the actual working demonstration and a written description of the demonstration suitable for handing out to anyone interested in using it to teach chemistry (free duplication services will be available in the chemistry department if needed).

We ask that all those planning to present a demonstration let us know as early as possible but absolutely no later than November 1 by completing and returning the participation form. If you have questions or need assistance in preparing your demonstration please call Professor Andreas Stein at (612)624-1802.
