| Although the morning demonstration completely filled the the seats, stairways, the doorways and even into the front of the room, the afternoon was also filled. Special guests: Lee Marek, Bob Lewis, DeWayne Lieneman. | ![]() |
| Magnesium metal was ignited and put between two blocks of dry ice. (solid CO2) Normally, this would extinquish usual fires, but in this case the combustion of the Magnesium actually pulled oxygen out of the dry ice, producing even more heat! | ![]() |
| During this experiment, they told a story about an Argentinean Battle ship that was sunk during the Falken Island Wars. The battleship's hull was a Magnesium alloy and when hit by a missle the hull actually started on fire! When the CO2 fire extinquisher system went off, it just fueled the blaze. The final blow was struck when the burning hull sunk below the waterline. The burning Magnesium pulled the oxygen out of the water (H2O), releasing the hydrogen! The result: a rather large explosion. | ![]() |
